Hwy 43 detour in southern Fillmore County begins Aug. 24 for slope repair
RUSHFORD, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 43 south of Choice in Fillmore County will be detoured for approximately one week beginning Aug. 24, while Minnesota Department of Transportation maintenance crews repair the slope of the road.
The repairs to the slope on the west side of the highway at milepost 10 will force the closure of the road to all traffic at that point, south of the community of Choice. The slope location is approximately 11 miles south of Rushford Village. Traffic will be detoured around the work site. Residents who live within the work zone will be able to access their properties.
The detour route for southbound Highway 43 traffic is Fillmore County Road 37 west to Fillmore County Road 10 south to Fillmore County Road 12 east and back to Highway 43. The northbound route follows the detour in reverse.
Crews expect to complete the work by the end of the week, weather permitting. If work is necessary the week of Aug. 31, crews will remove the work zone and detour prior to the following weekend.
Slow down and drive with caution

- Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
- Drive undistracted. Avoid using phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating – while in work zones.
- Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.

- Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Do the zipper merge.
- Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
- Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
- Expect work zones to constantly change. Day to day you could experience lane shifts, closures, narrower lanes, moving workers and vehicles.
